first weeks in Sydney

The first 4 days where all planned out having bank account, taxfile nr. and medicare(only the dutch) sorted, a trip to the blue mountains, a trip to Batemans bay and a view at the harbour entrance with the ocean.
After these 4 days i started felling sick, having a bad caugh and some headage i spend the next days taking it easy and resting.
I booked 5 more days so i had time to start hunting for a car to get moving around. I found a car on thursday and bought it for 2560$ AU.
After that i spend about a week at my friend Pauls place meeting his girlfriend and parents. He also introduced me to a hobby of his RC-car racing, which turned out to be quit fun and exited.

on the way to OZ

Because i chose a dutch travel agency my flight left from Schiphol Amsterdam, meaning i too the 7:40 train in Mechelen Belgium to arrive in time at the airport for the scheduled pre-departure talk. Seems i would be the only Belgian guy between 18 Dutchies, and off we where to Hong Kong.
Apparently only 2 of the 19 people listned carefully and managed to fill out the imigration card before arriving at customs.
Having the whole day to spend in a city as big as HK has you making descisions, so most of us chose to take a bus tour taking up most of the afternoon, we managed to see part of the lightshow just before we had to take off to the airport.
The departure terminal of HK must be one of the most spacious i've seen yet, and to my approval they served Stella Artois in stead of Heineken (1 point for the Belgians)
We arrived around noon in Sydney and after a quick foto stop we made our way to the Hostel where we would spend the next 4 nights.

Shoppinglist, what will i take with me?

Knowing myself i usually pack too much (better save than sorry). Therefore i didn't want to buy a backpack too big. I ended up choosing a Haglöfs OXO 550Q meaning 55 litres contents.
There are some things i really want to take with me, first of all my canon 350D with 2 lenses, a tripod for my camera, my laptop and my trumpet (i've been playing the trumpet since i'm 8-9 years old).
Fortunately i found a small backpack from Lowepro, where i can stash both my laptop and SLR camera (including lenses) in special compartments. this means i don't have to take my a seperate camerabag with.

Who, where, when, why????

Me, Hans 28y from Belgium.

Australia (OZ, Down Under)
No fixed date yet, but at the latest starting halfway the month March 2009.
When i travelled OZ in 2005 i immediately fell in love with the country and it's inhabitants.
turning 29 in 2009 i figured, now is the time if i ever want to go for 1 year (or more)
